Funny Stories for Kids: The Big Fat Mermaid by Dweezel and Pallie is a retold story of The Little Mermaid with very hilarious twists. Aria is a fat mermaid princess who indulges in food and would love nothing more than to try dry, delicious human food. However, her dad, Poseidon, wants her to "shed some pounds". So, of course, she goes to the sea witch who turns her into a human. On land she is very happy and gets to live out her fantasy.I gave this book a 3 out of 4 because it was like The Little Mermaid, yet different enough to keep your attention. It was nice to read about a princess who didn't have a perfect body and embraced it. Aria also got a prince who liked her being fat. There were people who didn't like Aria but she remained confident. The only reason I didn't give it 4 stars is because I didn't enjoy it that much, but that doesn't mean other people won't.Dweezel and Pallie did a great job at weaving the story with humor. It was funny how Aria was worried about food at the most inopportune times. They did an awesome job at showing Aria's personality through their writing. Aria's weight was also described alot, making me wonder how much she was really suppose to weigh. Another thing I liked was how different movies were referenced a couple times. It was although they were just making sure the reader was paying attention. There were a couple of things I didn't like. One was that when the authors had something to say, they put an astrix by it, then put their statement in parenthesis under the paragraph it was in. I think they should have put it at the bottom of the page instead of the middle. The other thing I wasn't a fan of was the over-the-top farting and burping on Aria's behalf. Of course this is a little kids book, so they would probably find it funny. So overall, this was a good book. It would most likely be an ideal bedtime story, as it is for little kids. They would love Aria and all her bad manners. I personally loved the ending, which was hilarious. I think other people would like it, too. I recommend this book for families with little kids, and especially a love for Disney movies.

By Sherry Fundin Aria is The Big Fat Mermaid.Ahab spotted her and named her as the whale that bit off his leg. She escaped his clutches by singing a siren’s song. She followed the boats, because she loved the human’s food. Her father, Poseidon, put his foot down…seaweed only! She rebels and goes to the water witch for a pair of legs, where she is seen by the prince who promptly falls in love with her. She burps, farts and eats, eats, eats, so it just goes to show that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. The humorous writing made me view this as an animated movie that played in my head as I sang along; hanging out with the mermaids, turtles and crustaceans, singing, dancing, and eating, eating, eating.I feel there is a message in here and Dweezel and Pallie did a great job of showing we are all unique and lovable in our own way. What would the world be like if we were all the same?My only problem was, I felt bad as I laughed at her, but it never seemed to bother Aria. She was comfortable in her own skin.I received a copy of The Big Fat Mermaid by Dweezel and Pallie in return for an honest review. To see more visit http://www.fundinmental.com

Dweezel and Pallie do it again By oldchili (FULL DISCLOSURE: I was given an advance copy of this book by the authors for an honest review)VERY funny book. Parodies Disney's "The Little Mermaid" at just as unexpected and amusing an angle as the first one that these guys did (Lily White and the Horrible Dwarves) parodied Snow White, and it comes with that same, irreverent bite the made me laugh the first time. Some might find its treatment of the main character offensive, but honestly, if you identify with Aria in any way you either REALLY need to lose weight or aren't paying attention to just how massive she really is.I'd say the age range of 10 and up is about right, with no cap on the upper age, so just bear that in mind if you're actually buying this for your kid. (Maybe add five years or so to the suggested age if your kid and/or you are really lame.)
