This book is perfect for little ones who are just learning to count!I love that the numbers are repeated since repetition helps little ones learn new things. First they see a large version of the number on one page and then on the next page they see a smaller sized number surrounded by that many objects. This shows them not only how the number is written but is a visual for them to actually count the objects! This is easily one of my favorite educational counting books for my 1 year old!!!*I recieved this book free in exchange for my honest review. All ideas and opinions expressed her 100% my own*

Cute Counting Book For Very Young Children By Tigerlily64 "Moo Knows Numbers: a learn to count book" is book 3 of the "The Adventures of Midge and Moo" series. Midge and her toy black-and-white cow, Moo, are best friends. In this delightful counting book, Moo is learning to count to ten. Your young child can learn to count, too.Kerry McQuaide has both written and illustrated this cute counting book. Your child will be happy to have Moo along on this counting adventure. Moo is sitting next to, climbing or hiding behind the numbers. Then various objects demonstrate how many of them would make up a given number: two shoes, three butterflies, four balloon animals, five cars etc. This is a fun book. Your child will love it!Note: Kerry McQuaide has both written and illustrated the books in this series. Each book of this series can stand alone and be enjoyed by itself, but it is fun to read the whole series to your child.

An Invaluable Book to Help a Child Deal with the Pain of Separation from a Parent By Healthy Living What child is not pained by separation from a parent, particularly a father (or mother) who travels far on military duty? Sally Huss has found a way to express that pain and still provide some tools for dealing with the separation. It is the red-checkered shirt that his father wore while he worked or they played together that reminds the child of the happy times with his Dad. This is a story that gracefully acknowledges a child's suffering and then suggests measures to help the child deal with the pain. For any parent who wonders how best to help their child with this difficult situation, this book is invaluable!

Good reading By Georgigirl "My Father's Shirt" is a story about a boy whose father is in the military and stationed away from home for extended periods of time. The boy misses his father very much and is having trouble coping. Dad wisely suggests that the boy wear his (Dad's) shirt when feeling lonely, as a tangible reminder of Dad's love and presence. It is, of course, effective and makes dealing with missing Dad much easier to handle. A well written story that might help many in the same situation. I would highly recommend it to everyone - especially those families with a member who is away from home, whether in the military or for other reasons, whether it be Dad or Mom. The ending is joyful and I liked it also.

All children will learn an important lesson about separation from this story. It could be separation from a mother or a father, a sister or a brother, or even a beloved family pet. This book sends a wonderful message: Although a loved one may be gone, they can still be with us in our heart. A wonderful message to help children (and adults!) cope with the difficulty of being apart from the ones they love. Another must read by Sally Huss!

Well-written Minecraft Novel By Amanda I have a nephew that really enjoys Minecraft, so I often buy books for him (it's one of the only things that motivates him to read). Most books I've found, especially the free ones, are not fit to be called books. They're scams, overpriced, with grammar mistakes and bad writing.NOT this book. It's not award-winning stuff, but it's a solid read. It tells the story of a Minecraft zombie and his adventures with his friends. In this book, they go on a "scarecation" to explore the jungle biome. They plan to visit a temple and go to the special zombie park for some cool rides. This zombie may not be human (of course), but he is just like any other human kid, getting into trouble and struggling with his mom picking clothes for him. There's a lot of creativity in this book. Creepy, his creeper friend, takes medication so he's less likely to blow up. Also, the zombies buy extra body parts because theirs keep falling off!I recommend this book to any kid who likes Minecraft, especially the reluctant readers.

Ticket to India, by N. H. Senzai

From School Library Journal Gr 4–7—After her grandfather's death, sixth-grader Maya travels with her mother and older sister from San Francisco to Karachi to help wind up her grandmother's affairs in Pakistan. Before leaving for the States, Maya's grandmother Alia hopes to embark on a secret trip to India in order to retrieve valuable heirlooms left behind decades earlier, when her family fled the country during Partition. Maya and her sister discover their grandmother's plans and blackmail her into bringing them along. In New Delhi, their mission is waylaid when Alia is hospitalized for a serious illness; determined to see their grandmother's dream to its end, the girls continue on their own. Senzai uses Maya's journal to fill readers in on the complex backstory of India and Pakistan's fraught relationship, but the entries are overly didactic, lacking true reflection and an authentic tween voice. Confusingly, Maya is able to relate obscure facts about India's railway system but cannot recall the name of the iconic Taj Mahal. An unlikely subplot involving street urchins and kidnapping verges on cliché, ultimately downplaying the novel's emotional depth. VERDICT Though more books for middle graders about Indian culture and history are needed, this one fails to satisfy.—Lalitha Nataraj, Escondido Public Library, CA

Review After the sudden death of her nanabba (grandfather), sixth-grader Maya travels from America to her grandparents’ house in Karachi, Pakistan, with her mother and older sister, Zara. Before Maya’s naniamma (grandmother) will leave with them, she is determined to retrieve her family’s hidden valuables from her childhood home in India. Zara and Maya sneak away with Naniamma to India, and although they begin their important “treasure hunt” together, Maya winds up trying to complete it herself. In a trip fraught with mistakes, timid Maya learns how to be brave, inspiring readers to root for this resolute heroine to succeed. Senzai’s (Saving Kabul Corner) beautifully detailed prose paints a vivid portrait of Maya’s surroundings and the people she meets as she travels across India. Aided by Maya’s journal entries, Senzai skillfully incorporates an enlightening lesson about the complex and connected history, cultures, and current state of affairs in India and Pakistan into Maya’s journey of discovery. (Publishers Weekly)Sixth-grader Maya has already traveled from California to Karachi, Pakistan, nine times to visit her grandparents, but this trip will be different: her nanabba (grandfather) has passed away. After the funeral, her grandmother will be returning to California with them, but first Naniamma intends to go to India and retrieve valuables hidden by her family when they fled to Pakistan during Partition. Maya and her sister, Zara, persuade Naniamma to let them join her, but their trip is complicated when Naniamma requires hospitalization, and Maya is later kidnapped by men that run a criminal gang of orphans. What starts as a realistic exploration of grief and family history turns into an exciting action adventure. . . . Senzai’s novel is packed with fascinating information about the complex history and culture of India and Pakistan. . . . Brings attention to an underrepresented culture in an appealing way. (Booklist)The death of her beloved grandfather brings sixth-grader Maya and her family from California to Karachi, Pakistan, her mother’s birthplace and the site of many blissful visits with Maya’s grandparents. Maya’s grandmother is understandably distraught over her husband’s sudden passing but she’s intent on going ahead with their planned trip to India, despite her family’s protests. Maya is shocked to learn that her naniamma only settled in Karachi when, as a Muslim, she was forced to flee India during the 1947 Partition. Maya and her older sister Zara decide to help their grandmother on her clandestine mission to recover a piece of her family’s history in India, but when the journey goes awry, Zara forges ahead alone. . . . Pair this with Nye’s The Turtle of Oman for an compelling look at two kids negotiating their places in their family’s history and country of origin. (The Bulletin of the Center for Children’s Books December 2015)What’s the basic story line? Sixth-grader Maya and her family travel from America to Karachi, Pakistan, after her grandfather’s death. Before leaving Pakistan, Maya, her older sister, Zara, and her grandmother take a trip to India to find a valuable chest hidden in her grandmother’s childhood house. While in India, Maya’s grandmother suffers a stroke. Maya and her sister must find the treasure on their own. Along the way, Maya not only finds what she was looking for but also her inner bravery and strength. Are the characters believable? Yes. They feel hope and disaapointment just as we all do at times. As Maya stands on the doorstep of her grandmother’s old house, her high expectations soon turn to disappointment. But she doesn’t let that disappointment stop her. Although some of the plot seems unbelievable, it is also very imaginative and one of the many reasons why readers will keep turning the pages. Who would like this book? People with a taste for adventure will love the suspenseful and unpredictable plot of this book. On a scale of 1 to 10, how would you rate this book? I would rate this book a 9. It’s a truly inspiring read about courage and family values. (Olivia Baran, Time for Kids Reporter Time for Kids)Told alternately through Maya’s journal and third person narrative, this book provides young readers with insight into the history of these two countries.
