About the Author Stephen Cosgrove is one of the best-selling children’s book authors of all time. His writing career began in 1973. At the time, he was working as vice-president of an investment company. 0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Happy but not Impressed.. By C.WAGNER Okay, let's start by talking about the pros to this little set.. I bought it for my 2 1/2 year old son whom has recently decided he LOVES books! No matter the type, size, or even the amount of pictures lol. He also has to have a stuffed animal when he sleeps, first wakes up, is tired, or sick.. His most recent cuddle buddy of choice is a blue raggedy Mickey Mouse. So I thought this little bundle would "kill two birds with one stone" lol. Well I was really impressed with the little Elmo first off.. I was expecting him to be made very cheaply. (Dollar store type material and poorly made) But suprisingly he is made quite well, and he's made of a super soft material! And the book, I was very shocked at how loud the sounds are when you press a button, most are kind of dull or muffled sounding but not this one.. This one is very clear and quite loud actually. And as always I was very pleased with the Amazon' delivery, i recieved it the morning of my estimated delivery date! Now for the cons and the things about this bundle that really disappointed me: Okay, so back to Elmo.. Although he is made very well and out of good material, he is tiny.. Even for my 2 1/2 year old. Compared to "standard" sized stuffed animals he's prob about half that size. Very small, I was expecting "standard" (like around 8 inches from head to legs, not 8 inches from head to bottom of feet) I wear a size 8 in women's shoes and my foot is almost an inch bigger than poor little Elmo. And as you can see Elmo sits evenly beside the book in the picture so yes, the book is quite small also.. I was expecting a "standard" size book also, not a toddler size. But since it was for my toddler I didn't think much of it, that is until I opened it... The book only has a total of 4 pages. A cover, 2 middle pages, and the back.. It would have been nice for at least one extra page. And lastly I was very impressed with the volume of the buttons on the book but I'm wondering if the extra volume will lead to a fast dying battery (which these "watch type" batteries for books like this aren't necessarily expensive but $3 every week will get old rather quickly) plus my son shares a room with his 6 month old brother and was kinda hoping this would be something he could play with in bed until his brother wakes up, but judging by the volume level I think it's probably safer for mommy to read it with him at night and then put it on the top shelf until everyone is awake. Lol. So there's my opinion, just something to think about. It's a nice set for a young child I'd say for around $6 but not quite what I was expecting for double.

The eyes on Elmo are soft and the doll size is perfect for bedtime. As for the book, the sound effects are fun and are interactive with the story.

The Elmo is the perfect size for little hands, and for travel. The sounds on the book work properly, although they are a bit louder than I anticipated. The only thing I would have preferred different is in the manufacturer's packaging - I prefer when toys are completely enclosed in packaging, thus eliminating possible contaminants from warehouse, shipping, other customers etc. This item is left open so that you can try out the sounds on the book. Again, that is just my personal preference, and the lack of packaging does not seem to have affected the items.

By Steven LEGO Star Wars: Small Scenes from a Big Galaxy offers a unique look into the world of Star Wars, from the lens of Vesa Lehtimaki. When I pre-ordered this book a few months ago, I thought it would be a small-ish picture book that was maybe 30 pages long (and I would have been happy with that considering the low price tag), but I was pleased to find that it is a full-sized coffee table book containing over 170 pages filled with beautiful photographs and wonderful descriptions!One particularly interesting bit for me was the "Making Of" section at the back of the book, which contains photos of Vesa's photography setups for various photos that are displayed throughout the book. The book also details the various techniques for creating atmosphere at such small scale, trial and error with lighting effects, and the list could go on.This book, LEGO combined with Star Wars, is a must-have if you're a fan of either franchises, and a no-brainer if you're a fan of both.

It's printed on heavy paper and you can tell by its overall heft they did not scrimp on quality on this book.And at over 170 pages there is a lot of material here. In the back of the book there are several pages of Q&A and behind the scenes photos, with the author discussing how he came to take on this project and how he goes about it. Very interesting.Now about the photos: Overall they are beautiful. What a great concept, photographing toys in this manner. In general many shots are darkly lit but that is the style the author is going for.However, my one qualm with the book is that several of the photos are just too dark to really see the fine details of what is being presented in the frame. (By the way, I own the book and am looking at it right now as I type this.)In fact, now that I compare the book closely to the author's photos online, the book is darker than the original photos.So while the original photos style may be purposely dark in style, in the book they are presented even darker and we lose a good deal of detail.Here are the photos on the web: https://www.flickr.com/photos/avanaut/with/8610245929/Finally I have to note that the book has inspired my son and me to photograph his LEGO toys in a similar style. It gives us a peek into the animals' minds and their adventures as we read through their diaries. I recommend it for kids and grow ups as well.

About the Author Jordan Quinn grew up in a fairy tale castle in England. It had a spiral stone staircase, a moat, and a dungeon. As a child she liked to play hide-and-go-seek and ride her beloved horse, Prince Charming. When she wasn’t riding, she wrote stories about fairies, trolls, dragons, and wizards. Today Jordan lives on a ranch in California with her husband, son, and a golden retriever named Sir Toots-a-Lot.Robert McPhillips has been involved in a wide variety of projects over the years—from illustrating greeting cards to animation, though he especially loves illustrating children’s books. Robert makes his home in Wiltshire, England, with his wife, Sam.

“Yes! Sir Archie won!” Prince Lucas shouted. “No, Sir Fred won!” cried Clara. “Squawk!” crowed Ruskin, Lucas’s pet dragon. He was definitely on the prince’s side. “Okay, let’s call it a tie!” Lucas said. “No way!” argued Clara. “Sir Fred won fair and square!” Prince Lucas and his best friend, Clara, had just had a toad race. They argued and laughed as they ran down the castle halls. Then, all at once, Lucas’s muddy leather boots skidded to a stop. Clara didn’t see in time and bumped into Lucas. Ruskin smacked into the back of Clara’s knees. Queen Tasha blocked the hallway. She tapped her black velvet shoe on the stone floor and stared disapprovingly at the mud-covered children. “Where on earth have you been, Lucas?” she said sternly. “You are late for your first music lesson!” Clara peeked out from behind Lucas. “Um, I’d better be going,” she said uncomfortably. Then she turned and hurried toward the door. The queen kept her eyes on her son. Lucas wiped some toad slime on his pants and sighed heavily. “Come on, Mother,” he complained. “You know I don’t want to play a musical instrument!” “It’s not up for discussion,” his mother said. “Music is part of your royal education.” Then she grabbed Lucas by the hand and marched him to the music room. Lucas stumbled along behind his mother. Master Aldrich, the royal music teacher, greeted them at the door. He had dark shoulder-length hair, a pointy nose, and a swirly mustache. He bowed to the queen. She nodded and left the room. Then Master Aldrich slid his glasses to the bridge of his nose and glared over them. “You’re tardy,” he declared as if Lucas didn’t know. The teacher sniffed. “Well then,” he went on, “shall we pick an instrument?” Master Aldrich walked—rather like a duck—across the room and sat down with a floating golden harp. The instrument hovered in the air as the music teacher began to pluck the strings with his long, skinny fingers. “Heavenly, isn’t it?” he said. Lucas shrugged. “Too many strings for my taste,” he said. Master Aldrich got up and pulled a recorder from a shelf. “Here’s a simple instrument that’s easy to learn,” he said, putting the pipe to his lips. Lucas watched his teacher’s fingers cover and uncover the holes on the recorder as he played a short tune. “Well?” Master Aldrich said, looking at the prince. “Too many holes,” Lucas replied. Master Aldrich waddled across the room and grabbed a bagpipe from a hook on the wall. He tapped, pumped, and blew on the pipes. Soon the instrument began to whine. Lucas stuck his fingers in his ears. “Too earsplitting!” he declared. Master Aldrich set down the bagpipes, cleared his throat, and adjusted his glasses. “How can you hope to master a kingdom if you can’t master something as simple as a musical instrument?” he said. Lucas shrugged again. “Music brings joy and happiness!” his teacher said excitedly. “It brings kingdoms together. It can even save lives!” Save lives? Master Aldrich sounded a little bit loopy to Lucas. I’d better pick an instrument to get him to stop talking, he thought. He settled on a stringed instrument with a long neck and a body shaped like pear sliced lengthwise. “Ah, splendid, my prince!” said Master Aldrich. “You’ve chosen the lute! It will take years of hard work to master, but the reward for playing beautiful music is priceless!” Oh no, thought Lucas. Years of hard work to master? What had the prince gotten himself into this time?

My son likes to have chapter books read to him at bed time, but because he is 3YO we need to make sure that there is not something in the book that will upset him. This has happened in the past with series such as the Magic Treehouse books.These books are very gentle, there is some minor peril, lots of adventure and team work, and of course some dragons, The way that the species/character classes are introduced is really nicely done, and the overriding message is that even if people are different in the way they look, they are still good people.Each story has a gentle moral component - such as being responsible, taking care of others, doing the right thing, working hard, respecting others etc.We will be buying more in this series as they are just what were looking for

Cute but short By Green Bean My son and I have started reading chapter books together at bedtime (he is 4 years old) we are waiting for a school book order to come in so I bought this as a book for in the meantime. It is a cute story but is written in a way that is not easy to read out loud it does not flow smoothly . Plus it is a very short story it took us 2 days to get through the whole book only reading about 20-25 a night.
