Little's quaint tale, augmented by Wenzel's naturalistic paintings, calls to mind the exploits of Peter Rabbit and Winnie-the-Pooh." -Kirkus Reviews"Montgomery and his friends speak to one another and express human emotions, they look and behavelike real , reach-out-and-pet animals. By PSusan I don’t know of a better accolade for a book then to tell other readers that my preschool grandson couldn’t wait to hear more of Montgomery Rabbit by Sandy Little. This short chapter book caught his interest and held it. While it is not an extremely long chapter book, it is longer than I wanted to read to him in one setting. Still he did not want me to stop so it definitely holds a 5-year old’s attention. Then when he returned to visit, he would quickly ask to hear more of Montgomery’s adventures. The illustrations are exquisite, pleasing to both young and old. They are the drawing point since the cover caught our eye. However, it is the story itself that kept our interest. Montgomery Rabbit has enough suspense and danger for children without being overly scary. Then there is just the right amount of twist to keep the story from being too predictable. We both found the ending to be bittersweet, wishing for Montgomery not to have to made a choice, but then life is full of choices. Also like Montgomery Rabbit, our world is a big scary place but full of wonderful surprises too. Don’t be afraid to explore and try new things while making friends along the way; a wonderful lesson learned from Montgomery. The publisher through Net Galley provided a copy.

By Grateful Grandma Montgomery is a small, floppy eared house rabbit who falls through a hole in the garden fence one day while watching a rabbit with pointy ears. When he realizes her is unable to get back into his Garden, he follows him. Befriending a wild rabbit called Bentley, the pair set out on an adventure to find the raspberry patch. When Montgomery and Bentley finally find the raspberry patch they come upon his girl. He has to make a decision about what to do at this point that is heartbreaking. This is a very sweet story with wonderful images that are so beautifully detailed that they almost look like photographs. Throughout the book you meet a lot of interesting characters, but none are quite as adorable as Montgomery. As a child, this would have been exactly the sort of book I would have loved. It is a story of friendship, not giving up, helping each other and watching out for dangers in life. A wonderful book and easy for young readers to read as well as being a great read aloud.I received a copy of this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
