About the Author Katie Goodman and Soren Kisiel, a wife-husband team, are the creators, writers, and directors of the comedy troupe Broad Comedy. They are also the co-founders of the Equinox Theatre Company, they run a summer theater camp for kids in Montana, and they do other co-things that led to co-parenting in recent years. Katie and Soren been nominated for the MacArthur Foundation Genius Award for their work in theatre. Their popular YouTube video, Sh*t Park Slope Parents Say, is a gently satirical take on modern parenting in Brooklyn. In addition to Broad Comedy, Katie has written for O, The Oprah Magazine and is the author of Improvisation For The Spirit: Live A Creative, Spontaneous, and Courageous Life Using the Tools of Improv Comedy. Simon This has been a nightly request since we got it last week for my six-year old twins. It's clever, full of imagination, and would easily appeal to both boys and girls equally. Just as important, it's a book I actually enjoy reading to them! Wonderful first children's book from this pair and hopefully we'll see a sequel as well as other books with a similar sense of humor!

I took a chance on winning it in two different book drawings and I happily got this one. Had I won both, I'd have given it to my Ewoks... too bad for the woks! LOL I'm keeping this baby! I'll read it to them though. So first, the book cover is totally amazing! The illustrations, by Cat Tuong Bui, are so bright, colorful and nostalgic- I can't help but love it! They make me think of cartoons from the 60's and 70's- they're the type of pics I'd love to have in my own children's book. If I wrote children's books. Okay, so the story is about a brother and sister who are nameless. They're terrified for their parents' safety. Anything could happen to them while going out on this so-called date. Thank goodness for Abby, their babysitter who uniquely counters each and every danger two children below the age of ten can think of! From evil unicorn-elevators to braiding squid tentacles; from jet-packed guard ostriches to quicksand monsters- these kids think of it all and Abby thinks of amusing antics where Mom and Dad defy all laws of zany situations! This story and it's pictures are more than a children's book. It's a TRUE ADVENTURE! It's a grand thrill-ride for the noggin', filled with surprises around every corner. BONUS: After we read through it with our boy, we had to read it again! DOUBLE BONUS: Sparked a really cool post-read conversation about how using the imagination (we said "making things up") can be a powerful force in making us happy. Just excellent.
