Sai has to recover, both physically and mentally, from the events at the end of Chameleon, and her shattered trust in Dom. There’s this wonderful push-pull of their relationship in this book, as they try to find equilibrium at that point between hurt and deep, intense friendships where there really is no description for it in English.But they don’t have time to linger and explore their feelings. The Damascus are finally released, and OMG. These killing machines make the Terminator seem easy to defeat, and when things get desperate, there are CONSEQUENCES! This book is unflinching, a roller coaster of small moments stolen between battles, and sacrifices large and small.(Once again, I read an early copy and loved it enough to buy a copy as well!)

She and Dom, but the domino has his own demons to fight.So much at stake. Saving the humanity … Salvaging Sai and Dom's relationship …The clock is ticking and the circle is closing in.It absorbed me like a sponge soaking up spilled wine- The portrayal of Dom's identity crisis and his ever-slipping grip on reality is phenomenal. I was very pleased to finally get his POV, and it didn't disappoint. His mind, body, and powers might be superior to the rest of humanity, but at the core he starts to learn that maybe he isn't that much different after all. And one day, he might even learn how to grin properly.No amount of wine could redeem this- Too many side characters that don't appear to be relevant or integral to the main story. As a result, some scenes felt a little too stretched.

The first book was that powerful. I just had to know! Fortunately, the author put me out of my misery and sent me an ARC.This is a YA story about a little Asian girl with an avalanche of power inside. Her friendships are crafted in a way that connects you to each of the characters through the way that Sai loves them. Dom is a constructed humanoid with a secret darkness. The question of just how much his human DNA plugs into the equation of just who or what he is will keep you guessing.The plot in this action packed sequel kept me quickly turning the page not realizing that I was losing half the night. There were moments that I just did not see coming. And the author's ability to leave you with a cliff hanger ending is taken to a whole new level with this sequel.This world that the author has created is intricate and carefully drawn. A meteor has changed the power structure and landscape of our world, and the resulting abilities and creations are just genius. I'm a sucker for alien alloys and AI technology. This world has so much more going for it than other YA that I've read in recent years.This is easily the best series that I've picked up this year. It's one of those books that you finish and want to share with everyone. Needless to say, I am desperate to know what happens next!!

This is trying to learn to code not with actual code or a computer with blocks or html... no it's a workbook version. Very badly written, as well. It reminds me of that tee shirt - "I am a programr... programmmer... oh... drat.. I code." Your child will learn nothing about block mod. No hands on, no learn. Can you learn to sew without string and a needle? No tools.. just words and quizzes.

Great for parents with no programming background By JustJerstin I started using scratch to teach my two year old some fundamentals of computer sciences and computer programming and I picked up the Coding with Scratch Workbook from DK Workbooks to help add some structure to the Scratch lesson I set up with my daughter. For me the DK Workbook has been an essential tool to help me get the most out of Scratch. It has a good selection of step by step tutorials and it's very easy to read and understand.

I gave it to my 12 year-old son who is interested in programming. He really liked the book. He said the star rating for this book should be 4 or 5 stars. He has gone through the entire book. Aspects he liked about the book were: It helped him make games, it was easy to understand and he liked the blocks better than just typing in code. My son said he would recommend this books to other kids who want to learn about coding with scratch.

Performing at the local children's theater is an important part of Beth's life, so important she considers a career as an actress when she grows up. But Beth hasn't been able to share that dream with her parents, who assume she'll want to be a lawyer like her dad. With her beloved theater on the verge of closure, Beth takes a risk, both onstage and off, and a giant step on the road to growing up. Lots of good role models in this story By Jo Ann This is an enjoyable story that follows the heroine Beth and her friends as they analyze the decisions that Juliet made in Shakespeare's famous play and compare them to the decisions they might make as 12 year olds. Lots of good role models in this story as well. Beth's commitment shows how it is possible to succeed when you have a dream. When all seems to be going wrong and superstition appears to reign, a little faith, tenacity and patience can make a big difference. Playing Juliet is a great read for children on so many levels. It gives an interesting look at the fun and challenges a 12 year old expereinces as an actor in a children's theater.

It was interesting and fun to see how even the smallest decisions Beth, the teenage main character, makes and actions she takes will shape the adult to be. Playing Juliet is a wonderful story about a child's experiences with friends, mentors and family involved with a local theater group and how a series of mishaps and challenges combine to create some very interesting problems to solve. Whether you are involved with local theater, interested in Shakespeare or just enjoy a story with lots of surprises, Playing Juliet is an engaging and uplifting story to read and share.

By Joe Boudreault I am posting my review of the entire trilogy here.PATHFINDER:*** starsPathfinder is part 1 of the trilogy and I found it to be the best part. The publisher, Simon Pulse, lists it as science fiction, but this is not the case. Although it contains some very interesting sci-fi themes, it is essentially a fantasy novel, like its two sequels.Card offers us the story of a young man named Rigg Sessamin, who grows up in the wilderness where he discovers that he has the gift of 'seeing' the pathways of other living creatures and where they have been. He is a sort of super-tracker but of what use is this gift? Card then introduces more characters, and these people have the gift of shifting in time. With one character seeing all these pathways and another character able to move in time and the two of them getting together to jump to certain spots in time, the story takes a different shape, but not for the better. The most interesting aspect of this novel for me was the opening scenes of each chapter, where the pilot of a starship outward bound from Earth has a series of exchanges with an entity called an expendable, who also interacts with the ship's computers. Enter the themes of relativity and time dilation and artificial intelligence etc. They are the most intriguing things in the entire novel, and my reason for awarding even three stars here. If left at that, this novel would work as a fine sci-fi story. But it degenerates into a very poor dirge of fantasy.The novels, an attempt by Card to tackle the issues and paradoxes of time travel, never panned out very well with any other writers. The complexity (or philosophy) involved make it nearly impossible to tell a coherent story. It is a topic better left to short story humor writing.RUINS**starsAs an immediate sequel, this book really hit bottom. I had expected to see more intriguing dialogue and ideas, but instead, the story headed rapidly into the far-fetched zones of pure fantasy. So much so that I find it hard to see why Card even bothered to write it. The scattered themes could have been incorporated into the first novel, perhaps strengthening that one good effort. Card utilizes the dreaded information dumps in all of the conversations, in which character is not only severely limited in development but in which a group of child-like semi-heroes have fun playing God with the history of their world. Tales of time travel and its consequences hits an all-time low here. Almost all of it is unbelievable, but Card trucks on in this dismally developed attempt of a novel. In the infamous last line of the book [“See?” said Vadesh. “See how you clutter up the world?”], I have to ask: see, Mr Card, how you clutter up the reader with unworkable ideas?VISITORS**starsVisitors merely carries on the story of Rigg and Umbo and his companions as they endeavor to save the world for humans. There are tidbits of interesting dialogues and subplots, but the impact of the larger story falls flat. Perhaps Card was having some extended fun with the idea of time travel and the manipulation of history that time travel purports to hold. But it doesn't work because there are far too many paradoxes involved, especially those of unforeseen consequences. Rigg and his many clones come to be virtual gods in their strange abilities, and as such, they are given too much of an advantage over the average protagonist. They cease to be believable or desirable as characters under conflict, and even less so as heroes encountering danger. I can only recommend that the reader skim through these last two books for the occasional Cardian brilliance of conjecture among the drivel of impossible situations.

Decent array of Minecraft Guidance for the ADVNACED user, primarily on computer platform (some cross-platfomr transference) By Jarucia Jaycox Let me get this out of the way: I Minecraft on xBox One and my iPad.So it turns out that IF that's the case, this book may not be what you're looking for.There are a good number of coding tricks and tips that I couldn't do on either of those platforms.That said, as I moved through the book looking for things I could translate into these other platforms (if you're patient and a true builder of worlds) you can probably get some interesting insights.I have yet to figure out if I can automate farming or other production on these platforms, but based on what I watch my 6yo and 8yo do, I think I might have the tools to get there.The one piece of advice that I impressed the kids with was making a light randomizer using pressure plates, pigs, redstone (and cubes) and a glass cage for the pigs. In order to do this I had to work off the image in the book because it doesn't actually spell out directions. If you're looking for step by step, this isn't the book for you. I used other images to inform some others tips I tried including running redstone up walls to connect lights to pressure plates. I hadn't seen my kiddos do THIS yet (though they have an very impressive array of skills with switches, buttons, and pressure plates) so I wasn't sure how obvious it might be to other casual users.The ADVANCED in the title really means "I, as the author, am making the basic assumption that you, my reader, know the terminology I'm using and have already figured out many of the foundational elements of crafting so I will not hold your hand." This is not meant for readers under the late middle school years.When I went back to the specs (and looked in the book), I really couldn't find anything that says "Don't buy this if you're looking for pocket edition or xbox edition strategies". As I said, it really isn't geared for that, but SOME of the content is transferable.Of course my son is BEGGING me to download the computer version so he can record and vlog his Minecraft experience...and this book does tell you how to do that. Though, since he's only nearly 6yo, we didn't go down that path.In general, I think this book might be frustrating to some who are look for quick tips across platforms, but for the advance user perhaps they would really love it.

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. A Good Further Exploration of Minecraft for the Experienced Minecrafter By Bryan Newman My kids really enjoyed this book. My fourteen year old took many of the specific examples in the book for automating farming and used them as tutorials to create systems that he really enjoyed showing off to me. My nine year old seemed to have liked flipping through the book but did not seem to get as much take away information from it. So it seems to be a better book for the older children.They both read it while on a long road trip and used their iPads to test out some of the concepts, but said that the book went beyond the limited capabilities of the mobile Minecraft app, so many things were not tested until we got home and they could use the full PC version. So This also seems to be a fairly in depth book that needs the full version to fully appreciate.We worked together to install a couple of Mods that were suggested in the book which seem to have expanded their enjoyment of the game. when I asked them, both said this is easily a 5 star book, which comes straight from the expert enthusiasts' mouths. Personally, I couldn't be happier because it passed many hours on a 13 hour drive. So 5 stars from me too!

We found the book to be dense with information, but easy to read and follow.Highly Recommended.
